Battle the Bans

Challenge: Change Gen Z’s perception that Spotify is only for music streaming and encourage new and current Spotify users to engage with the world of Audiobooks.

Insight: As an audio streaming platform, Spotify has the unique opportunity to provide equal access to literature. And, if there’s anything Gen Z is passionate about, it’s using digital activism for a good cause.

Idea: “Battle the Bans” a campaign to fight book censorship.

Awarded Silver in the 2024 Hatch Awards and the Merit Prize in the 2023 Young Ones One Show.

Case Study Video

Spotify will create a banned book playlist for users to access. For each listen a banned book receives, Spotify will donate 10% of the proceeds to the American Library Association to fight censorship.
